UMG actively campaigns for the university museum sector. Working alongside our sister organisation UMIS (University Museums in Scotland) we represent the interests of university museums to funders and stakeholders. We also maintain close links with the international body for university museums, UMAC.
Since its formation, UMG has established an international reputation for its leadership in advocacy of the sector by promoting the interests of university museums to Government, MLA and national organisations such as the Museums Association and higher education funding bodies.
In May 2004 UMG UK launched its ground-breaking report, University Museums in the United Kingdom: a national resource for the 21st century. Summarising the activities and achievements of the UK’s publicly accessible university museums, this advocacy publication sets out the case for increased recognition of their research, learning and social potential together with recommendations for further development and improvements.
