Advocacy:
UMG UK actively campaigns for the university museum sector. It is the voice of the sector, and is recognised as such by the Museums Association, by Government, MLA and funding bodies such as the Arts and Humanities Research Board and Heritage Lottery Fund. Because its membership includes major museums and small departmental collections it can represent the full diversity of university museums and collections.
In May 2004 UMG UK launched an advocacy document, University Museums in
the United Kingdom: a national resource for the 21st century. This report offers a brief survey of activities and achievements of the UK's publicly accessible university museums and makes a case for increased recognition of their research, learning and social potential together with recommendations for improving their situation.
