UMG
UK was established in 1987 and is for everyone working with university
museums and collections. Our members include major university museums,
individuals working with small departmental collections, and freelancers
interested in the sector. Rates for institutional membership vary according
to the size of the institution. Individuals with an interest in university
museums are welcome to join as personal members.
The benefits
of membership include:
Advocacy:
UMG UK
actively campaigns for the university museum sector. It is recognised
as the voice for the sector by the Museums Association, by Government,
MLA and funding bodies such as the Arts and Humanities Research Board
and Heritage Lottery Fund. Because its membership includes major museums
and small departmental collections it can represent the diversity of
university museums and collections.
Information:
UMG UK
members receive news and information on a wide range of topics including:
sources of funding for university collections, VAT issues, and relevant
news from the wider museum sector, such the development of the Designation
Scheme and the establishment of a regional museum framework.
Events:
UMG UK
organises conferences and seminars on subjects of concern to university
museums. These events are also an opportunity for members and guests
to get together and socialise.
